Pour battre le record, détenu depuis le 25 décembre 2016 par Thomas Coville en 49 jours 3 heures 4 minutes et 28 secondes, François Gabart devra couper la ligne d’arrivée avant le 23 décembre à 13h09 (heure française) sur son trimaran MACIF. En plus de travailler sans relâche pour faire avancer son trimaran de 30 mètres le plus rapidement possible, il devra donc bénéficier d’un enchaînement de conditions météo favorables. Sunshine and a steady 6 knots to 8 knots of breeze breeze greeted the competitors for Race 3 of Strangford Lough narrows regatta. GTR has some ground to make up after dropping back to mid fleet. With the angle free but not free enough to fly the spinnaker it was the perfect moment to deploy the Code Zero. With the both sails set and trimmed in GTR was doing two to one over its nearest rivals which allowed them to eat into the lead and eventually take the race win. We've featured this before, but this is a better and quicker way of tying it. It's effectively 2 knots for the price of one. * Instead of a normal loop, make a Clove Hitch in the Bight on the standing end. Then pass the working end up through, round and back down as you normally would in a Bowline. ... Tighten the Bowline part first, and then the hitch. Voilà! A really strong Bowline variation. Remember, it's going to take you slightly longer to untie. As the name suggests, it's good in water, that's why it's a good knot for your tender on windier days.
