From the southeast trades to the milk run, through the ITCZ β the doldrums β up through the northeast trades, and then into the westerlies at 35-40 degrees north where it gets serious. Big lows form over Russia, roll across the Pacific, and feed the Aleutian Low in a constant battle with the North Pacific High. Know the system before you go.
