We sail on the good ship Saracen, a Beneteau Oceanis 473 from 2006. Out journey started in Scotland in early 2023 and our ultimate goal is to sail around the globe …..slowly. We make these videos mostly for family and friends and to create a record of our adventures for ourselves so that we can look back at them later in life, were not in it to make money (way to hard). Citizen science forms a key part of our voyages, with guests contributing to global citizen science initiatives while travelling through remote and biodiverse regions. Each expedition features activities from our Science & Education programme, encouraging a deeper understanding of the places we explore. One of the projects highlighted is the Phytoplankton Monitoring Network, a NOAA-led initiative in North America that relies on volunteers to monitor phytoplankton communities and support the early detection of harmful algal blooms (HABs). In 2024, a sample collected aboard an HX vessel revealed elevated levels of a phytoplankton species of concern, later confirmed by NOAA and communicated to coastal communities. Citizen science continues to play an important role in expanding knowledge of marine ecosystems and supporting long‑term environmental research. Since 1896, HX has led mindful expeditions to some of the world’s most extraordinary places. 130 years on, we continue that legacy, taking curious adventurers to iconic destinations such as Greenland, Antarctica, and the Galápagos Islands aboard our modern expedition ships.
