What is Raiding? At our events, which span four days of sailing, each day's races (or non-competitive group sailing, depending on which boat you're on) are divided between our smaller craft and larger yachts. Routes are set by Matt and most participants are lined up for the starting sequence! Cream tea or a picnic moored up in a cove, the days vary depending on where we sail and the weather of course. Evenings are spent unwinding by the water with a cold drink, followed by a delicious meal and the day's prize-giving, always full of good humour. Some of the hardier sailors stay aboard their Swallow, while others opt for a more luxurious stay in nearby accommodations. Unlike traditional racing, raiding is all about camaraderie, strategy, and skill—without the use of engines. It’s just wind, water, and teamwork! Quando si vivono esperienze così piene e immersive il tempo sembra scorrere a un ritmo diverso. Non più veloce, non più lento, solo diverso. Le giornate sembrano sovrapporsi l’una all’altra, i momenti si fondono per creare una singola immagine riassuntiva del viaggio. Così come gli altri due giorni abbiamo navigato, per lo più a motore, controvento e controcorrente, per altre 130 miglia. L’unico vero cambiamento è stato veder scorrere territorio americano alla nostra sinistra, mentre costeggiavamo Porto Rico. Fino al tramonto non è avvenuto niente di significativo. Ma con il buio si svegliano le tenebre che portiamo dentro, e così anche le nostre paure. Temporali notturni e collisioni nella notte sono due tra gli eventi che abbiamo scampato per un soffio. Lo vedremo in modo più approfondito nella parte 2 di questo giorno! A presto C.
