We have been struggling to sort out the battery power for the electric motor as part of our fully electric boat refit. Except for diesel heating for a British winter, we are going to be Fossil Fuel free. These Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries from Fogstar are the game changer for us. They are the Drift PRO 24V 280Ah LiFePO4 Leisure Battery (Gen2), a new product release that gives us 24Volt, 285Ah and able to deliver 300A. With four of them, we can provide our electric motor with the 48V and 600A it needs. This is an essential step towards finishing our huge refit so we can launch our 1977 Rival 38 Centre Cockpit ketch ASAP. Disclaimer: We are Brand Ambassadors for Fogstar and can earn commission from referrals and get a discount. They do not have any editorial input or approval. We reached out to them because they were highly recommended by friends and because of the unique set of features that made these by far the best solution we could find for our needs. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.page/ Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc). There’s a typhoon in the forecast—at least according to one of the weather models—and it could sweep right over Amami next week. So it’s prep time aboard Wahine. Today I’m taking down the jib sail, adding fenders, securing gear, and making sure both inside and out are storm-ready. It’s a strangely calm and beautiful morning. Perfect weather… for storm prep. ANd a pleasant break from writing. Living on a boat along in a Bay by a remote Japanese village means you don’t just watch the forecast, you respect it. Join me for a short glimpse into the practical side of slow living at sea: a mix of solitude, muscle memory, and quiet readiness. 🎥 Shot on location in Buren Village, Amami Oshima 🌸 Part of the Never Too Late Longevity Project 📚 From the author of A Journey Beyond the Blue Zone #TyphoonPrep #BoatLifeJapan #AmamiOshima #SailingJapan #RemoteIslandLife #NeverTooLate #PacificSolo #SoloSailing #StormReady #CalmBeforeTheStorm #JibSail #TyphoonSeason #JapanWeather #LifeAtSea #BlueZoneJapan #boatlife #japan #solosailor
