READY, STEADY, GO! SW96 Liberty embarks on her 7500-mile Maiden Voyage from Cape Town to the Mediterreanean Sea. The owner, a European yachtsman on his second Southern Wind Yacht, expressed his satisfaction after his first sailing experience in Cape Town: "The final product has fully met my expectations of building a performing yet very stylish yacht. Being at the helm for the first time in the beautiful setting of Cape Town’s bay was fantastic, the culmination of a long process where all parties involved brought to the table their professional skills as well as their enthusiasm and passion for this kind of projects". Fair wind, Liberty! The naval architecture was developed in-house with the so-called 'Atlantic bow' creating a fine entry point. A four times winner at the Boat International Design & Innovation Awards: : best interior design motor yacht 500 GT and above, best exterior styling motor yachts 60 m and above, best general arrangement & deck design and best lifestyle feature design. Her moodier interior, beautifully designed by British Designer Harrison Eidsgaard has left us truly blown away. The forward part of the deck has been created to be a family space that includes a library and cosy reading nook on starboard and a large observation lounge forward with curved floor-to-ceiling windows offering immaculate views of the outdoor seating area. The pièce de résistance, is the sundeck, a place created to spend the entire day. The centrepiece is the eight metre by 2.5 metre pool containing 22 tonnes of fresh water 108 warmed via waste heat recovery. M/Y ELANDESS is a feast for the eyes, with a beautiful interior where every detail has been 6 taken into consideration by the designer.
When we were in the marina of la Ràpita, we cycled to the east side of the city and ended up in 'Parc Natural del Delta de l'Ebre'. It's a broad area where the river Ebro ends and it leaves a saltwater delta area, where you cycle in between grasslands, rice fields (black paella rice!) and flamingo’s. Really nice area! To me, flamingo’s are as magical as dolphins, beautiful special animals. I took a short movie of 2 flamingo’s flying over an 13th century ruin castle that was in the delta.
