For those interested in the Day Skipper Course, Sailing experience and basic boat handling knowledge is required. This 7-day course will help you and give you the tools to becoming a confident skipper. Included will be things like pilotage, boat handling, seamanship and navigation and that you can skipper or rent a yacht in familiar waters by day. For Competent Crew participants, we will be doing this course between Fort Lauderdale, Cay Biscayne, the Florida Keys and back. The aim for this course is to introduce a complete beginner to cruising under sail, equipping the novice sailor with skills required to be an active, useful crew member, i.e. knowledge about sea terms and parts of the boat, sail handling, ropework, fire precautions and prevention, personal safety equipment, man overboard, emergency equipment, meteorology, seasickness, helmsmanship, general seamanship and manners, able to keep a lookout and handle all sails. We’ve officially hauled Sabado out of the water at Port Whangarei Marine Center in New Zealand, and the refit has begun! In our latest video, we take you through a day in our new routine: starting the morning at our rental house, commuting to the boatyard, and diving into our first big boat projects. We kick things off by tearing apart our bed to prep for a major power system upgrade. We also give you a tour of the yard facilities, and remove our cockpit fridge to make way for a new one. It’s a strange feeling seeing the boat on land with empty cabinets, but we’re excited (and a little nervous) about what’s ahead.
