Sailboat Upgrade: Replacing Reef Lines in Boom. As new sailors, we are finishing off some sailboat upgrades and maintenance, to get ready for the waters of the San Juan Islands at the first of June. We have just replaced the Reefing Lines in our Boom. We have only two reefing points: A normal first Reef and a Deep Second Reef. We decided it was a simpler solution for us---versus adding another line. I've been thinking a lot about what is a necessity and what is a luxury. On my boat, something that feels really luxurious is the little 3-pot hanging herb garden I installed in the galley up against the port window. Having fresh herbs in the middle of the ocean is brings flavor to any meal!
