Las jarcias firmes deben cambiarse en los barcos de vela a los diez años de uso. Su gran problema es el óxido que puede provocar la rotura de los terminales y la consecuente desarboladura del mástil. Esto es muy peligroso, ya que puede herir gravemente a los tripulantes. En esta ocasión le ha tocado al barco de Julio. Además de la jarcia, toca reparar a fondo tanto el enrollador de proa como el de popa.
