This is one of the things we love about old wooden boats… For less than $7000AUD you could own this incredible piece of history Sure…. there is some work to be done, and yes it will be ongoing… but it’s not a rebuild…it’s a tidy up, and on the journey you will make new friends, learn new skills and develop a deep satisfaction from your role in Australia’s sailing heritage.
Quick funny little bit from just before I jumped into the water. These couple of Bull Sharks were great to swim with later. I just had fun dunking the camera into the water and watching them swim crazy fast after it. Now normally sharks in the Bahamas and elsewhere in the world don't behave like this. Usually they are much more skittish. But I was at a known shark feeding site called "Tiger Beach". As well, they were only attracted to small items that could be food being thrown overboard.
A few year back we had a great trip from East Down Yacht Club to Peel harbour, our Mumm 36 eat up the waves surfing all the way over. We did the trip in under 4 hours which was a record crossing for team GTR. The crew worked hard to keep the boat on an even keel trimming the sails all the way as we enjoyed the sled rid in the surf. The sea in the Irish Sea was perfectly matched to the sea state allowing us to wiggle up and down the waves with ease. The trip back home was a little harder, pounding head on into the waves was not nearly as fun as the surfing them on the way over. Hopefully you are enjoying the short the team at bottom up boats is pulling pulling together and it is giving you a taste of the content you can find on the full channel.
Tom Slingsby and his Australian crew have been hit with a devastating blow after a dramatic collision with a course mark during the first fleet race of the Championship Sunday forced the team to retire from racing altogether. The collision occurred as Australia and Canada were approaching the first mark of the race at speed. Australia driver Tom Slingsby made a split second decision to manoeuvre away to avoid a potentially catastrophic collision with the Canada Team's F50 and crew, instead hitting the course mark, causing extensive damage to the Flying Roo.
