The Scow configuration might not be that easy on the eye at first but as the Mini 6.50s and the Class 40s are discovering there's lots to recommend them and the cruising world looks like it might be next to feel the force.

Full test in Multihulls World N°196: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/vandal-46-explorer-a-4x4-of-the-seas-in-catamaran-mode ► The Vandal Marine brand was created by Dutch manufacturer Tenderworks, who specialize in tenders for megayachts. The main idea behind the project was to bring to market a true “all-terrain” powercat, inspired by workboats and featuring an innovative design with asymmetrical hulls linked by a central foil capable of optimizing the equation that combines speed/consumption/passage though the water. The aluminum hulls are protected by impressive thick scantlings, and the welded parts throughout the deck are impressive. The 46 Explorer is fitted out in a somewhat rustic fashion, with a single, relatively spartan double cabin. However, a number of customization options, such as the fabric enclosure for the flybridge enhance the level of comfort. According to the manufacturer, at 20 knots, fuel consumption is reduced by 30%, giving a range of over 200 miles. It’s worth noting that despite the foiling design, the Vandal is still perfectly capable of taking the ground – you’re either an explorer or you’re not... A second 60-foot (18 m) model is currently under study. Full test of the Vandal 46 Explorer to appear in a forthcoming issue. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Builder: Vandal Marine Architect: Jutson Marine Design Length overall: 46’ (14 m) Waterline length: 39’ (12 m) Beam: 14’ (4.4 m) Draft: 2’6” (0.8 m) Light displacement: 26,015 lbs (11.8 t) Powertrain: 2 x 425 HP Yamaha XTO Cruising speed: 20/28 knots Max speed: 40 knots Fuel: 333 US gal (1,260 l) Water: 79 US gal (300 l) ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! Recently, I again had Chuck along as crew on Freelance, my Pearson 36 Cutter (Pearson 367). We were tacking up the Apostle Islands' North Channel in a fresh breeze (15-25 knots apparently wind), flying along at hull speed.(about 7.5 knots) We both took two-hour tricks on the wheel. It was fun beat to windward.
