Regardless if you call it a Chinese Gybe, Death Roll or Uncontrolled Gybe they can happen in a heart beat. One second you are cruising along and the next you are lying flat in the water with little or no ability to do anything about it. This Chinese Gybe was over in an instant, cost us the race, in reflection it taught us a lot about preventing it from happening again and how to recover better if it does happen again. J109 "Going to Red" beating to windward had a fine line to thread the gap between two other IRC 1 J-Boats during the first day of racing during Cork Week 2024.
