50th Rolex Fastnet Race - one month until vital registration opens! 1200 UTC 11th January 2023: this time should be double underlined in the calendar of those wishing to enter next year’s Rolex Fastnet Race, as it will be the moment when registration officially opens for the 50th edition of the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s flagship event. Just like Glastonbury tickets when they go on sale, registration opening prior to recent editions of the Rolex Fastnet Race have seen available places snapped up within just a few minutes. In the last pre-pandemic edition of the biennial Rolex Fastnet Race in 2019, the entry capacity was reached in just four minutes and 37 seconds - 13 seconds outside the record time set two years earlier. With next year’s edition of the world’s largest offshore yacht race marking a special anniversary, demand is expected to be higher than ever, with more than 450 expected on the start line, ranging from maxi monohulls and multis to 30ft club racers and cruisers and everything in between. Entries are available on a ‘first come-first served’ basis and any late comers beyond the RORC’s limit will be placed on a waiting list. #RolexFastnetRace #RORCracing

We sail on the good ship Saracen, a Beneteau Oceanis 473 from 2006. Out journey started in Scotland in early 2023 and our ultimate goal is to sail around the globe …..slowly. We make these videos mostly for family and friends and to create a record of our adventures for ourselves so that we can look back at them later in life, were not in it to make money (way to hard). Ebbene sì. Siamo scaramantici e non diciamo nulla. Ultime 150 miglia. Julia sembra impaziente di arrivare e decide di accelerare, con un galoppo veloce verso la Martinica. Saltella sulle onde, alcune le surfa proprio, raggiungendo picchi di velocità durante la discesa. Decidiamo di chiudere il frullone per non tirarlo oltre il dovuto e riapriamo il Genoa. A bordo c’è un clima strano: si respira la trepidazione dell’arrivo mescolata alla malinconia già presente nei cuori dell’equipaggio. A prescindere da come la si è vissuta intimamente, abbiamo attraversato l’oceano Atlantico. Domani secondo programma arriveremo e inevitabilmente dentro si pensa ai giorni vissuti insieme. Ma non è ancora ora di tirare somme. È ora di tenere gli occhi aperti e vivere l’ultima notturna. Bisogna ancora superare una notte, avvistare terra e avvicinare la nostra destinazione. Solo lì, sarà il momento giusto per tirare il fiato. Per oggi, aspettiamo il tramonto, l’ultimo tramonto di questa traversata. A domani Andrea
