I had to throttle manually from the engine room while the captain shouted commands over a walkie-talkie. One wrong move, and it could have been a disaster. J109 Going to Red gliding by GBR 7737 from the IRC 0 fleet during Volvo Cork Week 2024. The crew on the downwind boat was calm as the boats converged, making only a small adjust to ensure they stay clear. Shortly after the close cross it was time to take on the lay line and get after the leaders of the IRC1 race who had got the jump on the redline racing team at the start.
