A common expression heard among sailors in Colorado: "If you can sail here, you can sail anywhere!" I'd say it's primarily due to the quick-changing mountain weather and heavy winds that come up without warning. But the constantly swirling winds, steep mountain terrain, cold water, limited facilities, and lack of depth charts and hazard markings also make it a challenging place to sail. Several notable sailors hail from Colorado including world champion sailor Cameron Holland, Olympic competitors Chris Steinfeld, Erika Reineke, Sarah Ragle and Jack & Marcia Mathias and three-time America's Cup winner Josh Belsky (born in Rye, NY but relocated to Aspen, CO in 2008). Colorado is also home to the world's highest regatta, the Dillon Open Regatta held every August. Music: "Broken Bones" by Love Inc. Soulmates has many custom touches, but the interior one that’s unique is the gimbled stove. The stove and oven are part of a unit that includes pot lockers on either side. The stove/oven/pot locker unit has a circular bottom that rides on halyard sheeves. Not only does the stove stay level, but the tops of the pot lockers on both sides of the stove stay level too. When the boat is heeling, the tops of the pot lockers become level surfaces that the cook can use for pouring a cup of coffee or plating dinner. I have never seen a set up like this on any other boat.

► Full test in our Special Issue 20 Forever Green 2: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/hopyacht-30-for-making-short-hops-under-sailand-electric-power ► Nominated for the MOTY 2023 in the Forever Green category, the HopYacht 30 is offering a new and refreshing approach in the somewhat traditional world of boating... this catamaran designed by Du Toit Yacht Design makes no pretentions in terms of performance, focusing instead on ease of handling and practicality in general. Indeed, the HopYacht 30 features a single furling genoa supported by a mast logically stepped very far aft. The designers have limited the beam to 11 feet 3 inches (3.44 m) in order to limit the cost of a marina slip. The HopYacht can be disassembled and its two hulls each fit into a standard shipping container. This catamaran will therefore be crossing the oceans as deck cargo - it is approved in CE Category C (Beaufort Force 6 and maximum wave heights of 2 meters or 6½ feet). In addition to its genoa, the HopYacht is powered by two 6 kW E-Propulsion pods, equivalent to 9.9 HP regular motors, but without pollution or noise of course. With the adoption of an induction cooker and an electric water heater, no fossil fuels will be consumed on board. The interior, not dissimilar to what you’d find in the riverboat sector, is surprisingly comfortable for a unit of this size. The manufacturer is also offering an interesting model of shared ownership for 6 people (or 3 couples). ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: HopYacht Architect: Du Toit Yacht Design Length: 30’8” (9.35 m) Beam: 11’3” (3.44 m) Draft: 2’4” (0.7 m) Air draft: 39’4” (12 m) Sail area: 318 sq ft (29.5 m²) ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests!
