What is Raiding? At our events, which span four days of sailing, each day's races (or non-competitive group sailing, depending on which boat you're on) are divided between our smaller craft and larger yachts. Routes are set by Matt and most participants are lined up for the starting sequence! Cream tea or a picnic moored up in a cove, the days vary depending on where we sail and the weather of course. Evenings are spent unwinding by the water with a cold drink, followed by a delicious meal and the day's prize-giving, always full of good humour. Some of the hardier sailors stay aboard their Swallow, while others opt for a more luxurious stay in nearby accommodations. Unlike traditional racing, raiding is all about camaraderie, strategy, and skill—without the use of engines. It’s just wind, water, and teamwork! J109 Going to Red was finding it hard to avoid the Cork 1720's who where sailing a different course with shared marks on the final day of Volvo Cork Week 2024. After ducking one starboard tacker it looked like they were clear until another one flicked over and call STARBOARD. The skipper on the J109 gave him the option to let them cross or get leebowed which would have destroyed both there races. Luckily common sense prevailed and both boats got to separate and finish there separate races.
