► Discover our full test in Multihulls World N°200: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/swiss-cat-55-glamorous-and-efficient ► Swiss Cat Yachts is ramping up business, having kept a relatively low profile in recent years: their new 55 made a big impression at Cannes with its inverted bows, modern, attractive layouts and, of course, its electric metallic blue exterior. Circulation on board is optimized thanks to wide side-decks and gentle slopes - such as the steps between the cockpit and the sugarscoops. The deck layout is particularly uncluttered, with minimalist helm stations. The weight calculation of around 31,000 lbs (14 t) and the generous sail area (1,840 square feet/171 m² upwind) guarantee excellent performance even in light airs. In rough seas, the 3’3”/1-meter bridgedeck clearance will protect the catamaran from slamming. As for the cutter rig, it guarantees safety and ease of handling offshore. This new 55, like all Swisscat models, can be customized according to the owner’s wishes. ► Technical Specifications Builder: Swiss Cat Yachts Architect: YDC Design: Amadio and Partners Length: 55’5” (16.9 m) Beam: 26’11” (8.2 m) Displacement: 30,865 lbs (14 t) Draft: 2’2”/9’6” (0.66/2.9 m) Mast length: 733’10” (22.5 m) Mainsail: 1,087 sq ft (101 m²) Genoa: 753 sq ft (70 m²) Gennaker: 1,722 sq ft (160 m²) Spinnaker: 2,690 sq ft (250 m²) ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! When we sailed the island of Lefkas in the Ionic Sea of Greece, on the most southeastern side of the island, is an islet called Atokos. This is an uninhabited island, where on the east coast is the famous Wild Pig Beach. We took our dinghy and looked at the pigs that walked on the beach here. The pigs are wild or semi-wild pigs, probably descendants of animals that were once left on the island by humans. This happens more often on uninhabited islands, where pigs are introduced for food purposes or accidentally stranded by ship voyages. Atokos has been uninhabited for a long time, but in the past it was occasionally visited by shepherds or hunters. The pigs may have come from these. They eat a wide range of plants, seeds, roots and nuts that occur in nature. On Atokos vegetation is sparse, but pigs can eat dried grass and branches. Marine life can also be a source of food; some pigs eat washed-up seaweed or small crustaceans. Although pigs are technically wild, they often exhibit semi-tame behaviors when they come into contact with people. Their behavior depends on how much interaction they have had with visitors. They can tolerate human contact, but often remain wary. Some pigs are curious and dare to approach, especially if they smell food!
