On 12th januar 2015 the new HM830 takes test flights to compare with its twin 8broken and repaired) brother. Now that I achieved some experience with the older one, flying should be easy right? Well, it was, but as always, holding the camera and controlling is not easy at all!! Average flight times passed 2 minutes, promised!! This is the best of the three videos, but unluckily the wind was kinda high and I couldn't make this guy return to me so I had to cut the engine...but "he" wasn't doing it bad, huh? =)
The full review of the M.9, the prototype of the M.10, is out! You can order it here: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/m9-m10-s-prototype-a-100-electric-powercat or read it for free if you are a Multihulls World subscriber. The M9 electric powercat - built in St Malo, Brittany, then assembled and completed in Caen, on France’s Channel coast - made its public debut in the Mediterranean. But what’s so special about this new model? Its two-sided solar-powered wings, that unfold when under way: the photovoltaic cells facing the sea thus capture the sun’s reflection from the surface of the water. In total, the solar installation is capable of producing 6 kWp, a considerable figure for a catamaran just over 30 feet in length. At 6 knots, range is unlimited - during the day, weather permitting. The second remarkable technological innovation is the car-like control interface. The on-board computer controls all the settings and manages the virtual anchor system: the motors are connected to the GPS position to “hold” the boat without the need to drop an anchor. A third point worthy of note: when folded, the solar wings, together with removable glass panels and canvas sections, transform the central part of the powercat into an enclosed space measuring 130 square feet (12 m²), called the deck cabin. The table in the saloon can be lowered, and cushions added, to create a double 4’7” (1.4 m) berth. The interior is cozy and include a galley. In the hulls, there are two cabins and a heads compartment. The foredeck is fitted with a trampoline, which is lighter than a rigid deck. At the stern, the yard has designed two bathing platforms. We know that learning to sail can be overwhelming and there is a lot to take in. In an effort to help, we’ve created a series of “Bite Sized Lessons” taken straight out of our textbooks – Sailing Made Easy and Coastal Cruising Made Easy. In this lesson we take a look at who has the right of way as two sailboats approach each other; one on starboard tack, the other on port tack.
