We recently navigated the uncharted Kinabatangan River, aka 560 km of wild, winding waterways home to monkeys, elephants and other rare and endangered wildlife. The surface looks calm, but at night, those glowing eyes of giant crocs in the torchlight remind you who really owns this place... very splash had our crew looking twice! David Payne of the Australian National Maritime Museum gives us some more inspiration for Australian Sailing Hall of Fame nominations. Today he shows us around Taipan, the 18 foot skiff designed and raced by Bob Miller. Miller, who was later known as Ben Lexcen, used many of the design principles seen in Taipan on the successful Australia II.
