BIGOUDEN, 2007 Discovery 55 Sailing Video The Ron Holland-designed Discovery 55 sets a high benchmark for the luxury, push button cruising yacht category. The interior layout is brilliant with a raised dinette, pilot station, large passageway galley, full beam aft owner’s stateroom, bunk room, and VIP guest stateroom. Interior design details are by the renowned mega yacht stylist Ken Freivokh. The light maple interior and large saloon windows make the interior bright and airy. A walk-in engine room allows superb machinery access. BIGOUDEN is hull no.19 of this Discovery 55 series. She was launched in 2007 and spent most of her life in the eastern Mediterranean with light seasonal use and on-land storage until November of 2017 when she participated in the ARC rally ending up in the Caribbean. From there she continued up the east coast to Newport, Rhode Island, where she had cruised summers while being professionally maintained indoors at Bristol Marine in Somerset, Massachusetts. Her condition is therefore excellent when compared to sisterships that have circumnavigated as is their wont and capability. She has never been chartered and has always received the best of care. Electronics were updated with a full suite of the latest Raymarine Hybrid Touch displays. She has recently been bottom-painted and is ready for cruising in New England or beyond. 🪢 Sunday Boat Tip [2/52] 🪢 I think you would be surprised by the number of boats we see with flapping sails as they try to motor against the wind 😬 I’m saying you should stop this now! Not only will you save the sails to last longer, you will also ✨ Increase your boat speed ✨ Decrease your fuel consumption ✨ Make the boat go smoother in the waves ✨ Less noise Motor sailing can have its benefits, and even though we prefer sailing it would be lying to say we never give a little support with the diesel engine, especially sailing behind islands where the wind is usually all over the place. By giving a little extra push with the engine we can go higher up towards the wind or sail over choppy waves in conditions that would normally be to light. If you still want to go dead straight into the wind? DROP YOUR SAILS!! They are not doing ANYTHING good by just flopping like that!
