To offset the large amount of wood used in the traditional boat-building process, twice the number of trees used in construction was planted in partnership with OneTreePlanted in Borneo, where most of the ironwood was sourced. This little guy was bobbing around our boat this morning for at least an hour - FAST ASLEEP!! I touched him a couple of times as he came right up against the sugar scoop and was amazed at just how hot his little flipper "solar panel" was! Seals float around like this with their flippers out of the water in the sunshine, as a way of warming up, so I thought that his flipper would obviously be warmer than our 13 degreeC water but was really surprised by just how hot it was. He was totally oblivious to my touching him over and over - super relaxed and fast asleep.
