J109 Going to Red was in the presence of sailing royalty during the Harbour Race of Cork Week 2024. Shortly after the start of the race J109 has a close cross with IMP, the two time winner of the famous Fastnet race. I was worried that our main sheet trimmer was going to jump ship to join the crew on Imp. I kept us far enough away to avoid the second man over board incident of the week. The fifth unit of the celebrated SW96 smart custom project is now underway at the South African shipyard. The bulkheads are finally set in place: they are full carbon infused epoxy structures with a corecell core thus weighting less than 1tons, so they can offer high sound insulation levels with no compromise on stiffness, performance, and volume. Confirming the shipyard’s ability to realize an owner’s wishes, Southern Wind is set to deliver yet another carbon fibre performance yacht. Much more is to come: stay tuned!
