From our Komodo to East of Flores Cruise in September/October 2014. Castle Rock in the North of the Komodo National Park performed perfectly. Just at the start of a slack between tides, we went down and were met by large schools of fusiliers encircling us at about 10 m depth. We’re Dani & Asher, two Kiwi’s who after spending 5 years living in London, decided to head home the slow way. We bought a 36 foot sailing boat called Bacchus, built a rowing and sailing dinghy Pīwakawaka and headed towards the horizon. We’ve sailed the south coast of England, the Atlantic coasts of France, Spain and Portugal, the Canary Islands and after a looooong trip across the Atlantic Ocean we ended up in the Caribbean. We free-dived with turtles, hiked volcanoes and had a blast on the coco palm lined, white sandy beaches before the unexpected happened. The world was hit by a pandemic. We’ve made it as far as Panama, the half-way mark on our journey home and we’re not entirely sure what happens next.
