Before we bought Adhara and became liveaboards we went on a sailing charter in Lanzarote for a week to try out if we could imagine living on a sailboat and how I’d feel about sailing in general. We did that in November of 2019 and a funny story about it is that I absolutely hated the first day! 😆 I couldn’t imagine why someone would actually enjoy sailing. I was scared, I got wet, I was freezing and I felt seasick for 6 hours straight and had no clue what a sheet is and what wind angle means. Apparent or true wind… wait, what? You guys can’t imagine the disappointment in Jans's eyes when I told him „no way in hell are we doing that“ 😂 Spoiler: the story has a good ending 😉 The second day we had the most beautiful weather and sailed around La Graciosa and Montaña Clara. I fell in love with the otherworldly landscape and raw beauty of these islands and enjoyed the gentle Atlantic swell, the idea of sailing as a means to explore this beautiful world we live on grew on me! It's March 1st! I am still at the Marina but now as a visitor. It looks like my departure will be on the 4th of March. I am waiting on the Life Raft on Board. Wahine now has a permit to sail offshore for 30 days and the permit starts on March 6th and ends on April 4th. The general plan is to head down to Hota or Misaki for 1-2 days to finish provisioning and checking systems and then head towards Okinawa. But the goal is not Okinawa itself, the aim is to check all the equipment and test me in certain scenarios offshore. And then back to Tokyo Bay in April to go through the process of deregistering Wahine as Japan Vessel and registering her under a Canadian Flag. That will take a few weeks so should be ready to depart in the prescribed month of June. In the meantime, I will try to post what I can and you can follow along to see where Wahine and I are.
