In this video we’re sailing upwind in 30+ knots of breeze in Johnstone Strait during the VanIsle360 race with a double-reefed main sail and #3 jib. Lots of sails were destroyed in that leg, including the #3 jib we’re flying in the video. Our leather wrapped steering wheels were in poor condition after years of baking in the sun with little to no conditioner. Today was the day to recondition them and being them back to life. They aren’t perfect but much better than how they started 🤪 @sailingeriskay It’s a task worth undertaking which required much elbow grease and dedicated time to bring them back to life. I’m not a professional leather restorer but simply used techniques I had seen on YouTube. We sail on the good ship Saracen, a Beneteau Oceanis 473 from 2006. Out journey started in Scotland in early 2023 and our ultimate goal is to sail around the globe …..slowly. We make these videos mostly for family and friends and to create a record of our adventures for ourselves so that we can look back at them later in life, were not in it to make money (way to hard).
