See the manufacturing technology that sets North Sails apart. Take a look inside North Sails’ brand new UK sail loft. The loft is based in Gosport, on the southern coast of the UK, and houses a number of global departments under one roof. These include Superyacht finishing and sail production for One Design and North Sails 3Di. As NorthSails’ European flagship facility, the loft enables North Sails to remain at the forefront of sail technology, innovation and manufacturing. Gosport is the first loft in the world to specialise in superyacht sails, and it’s gigantic raised floor – measuring 1,950m2 – is the largest ever built. A team of 9 designers and 82 staff members are aided by state-of-the-art technology and equipment, ensuring sails are delivered quickly, and safely – with no compromises in quality. The space is split into two manufacturing bays, and the main floor is designed to cater to superyacht sail finishing. Measuring 101x30m, the space can accommodate two J-Class headsails and a mainsail laid out simultaneously. The secondary bay is dedicated to One Design sailmaking and Certified Service sail care. North Sails’ Gosport loft will be opened by North Sails Group President, Ken Read, as well as European COO John Welch, and Peter Dubens – Managing Partner of Oakley Capital and Chairman of North Technology Group. Stamattina ci siamo svegliati alle 5 con un forte strattone dato dal gavitello. Le raffiche di vento sono in aumento e si prevede aumentino ancora. Mentre con gli occhi ancora chiusi cerchiamo di capire il da farsi penso che a migliaia di km da noi, dove si trovano tutti i nostri affetti, sono le 10 del mattino. Immagino un sabato indaffarato, fatto di sciarpe e scarpe chiuse, magari un caffè, oppure ancora nel letto a poltrire. Qui ogni cosa risposa, laggiù la vita è già sveglia da un po’, anche per i più pigri. È sempre affascinante mettere in pausa la propria realtà e fare un passo indietro per avere una visione d’insieme e rendersi conto che ognuno ha intorno la propria realtà. Una realtà relativa, non assoluta! È facile vivere nel tunnel della propria vita, ma intorno ci sono altre storie, altre vite, altre stagioni. E così, mentre noi siamo qui. Ognuno è nel proprio qui. Freddo o caldo che sia. Giorno o notte che sia. Esiste attraverso gli occhi di chi lo vive. Ed è così che in ogni istante è rinchiuso tutto il mondo.
