The red bird-of-paradise is one of the most spectacular birds on Earth, and it lives only in Raja Ampat, West Papua, Indonesia. Every morning, these birds gather in the rainforest to perform one of nature’s most extraordinary courtship rituals. 🐦 What is the red bird-of-paradise? The red bird-of-paradise (Paradisaea rubra), known locally as cenderawasih merah, is a species endemic to the Raja Ampat islands. Males have vivid red, ribbon-like tail plumes and are famous for their elaborate courtship displays. 💃 Why do red birds-of-paradise dance? The dance is a courtship display. Each morning, the birds gather at the same tree to perform. The males dance and show off their beautiful plumage to impress the females, who watch and observe each male in turn. Eventually, a female chooses one lucky male, and they mate. 🌅 When and where can you see the red bird-of-paradise dance? The best time is early in the morning, when the birds begin their daily ritual.
