Even if you are an experienced sailor, it can be helpful to book a sailing lesson to get the benefit of local knowledge. A local skipper can teach you so much in a short space of time, including about the regional weather, winds and mooring, as seen in this video of a Sardinia yacht rental. You can also use the opportunity to find out their advice for the best spots for wildlife, snorkeling, dining out and avoiding crowds.
