Our new cruising yacht Viator Explorer 42 DS has 2x10KW electric motors as propulsion. Those motors can be used as hydrogenerators when sailing. We are testing this feature in this short video. The maximum output is about 21A, which equals about 1KW. But it is still very volatile, so we have to optimize the regeneration process. After a great start on the J109 GTR the A35 was on the prowl with their big mast head kite casting a wind shadow over the race leader. We made a poor decision not to stay clear ahead at all cost which ended up us costing the race. The A3 slipped to leeward, got out of the tide, lead at the first mark before sailing away to take the race victory. The team at bottom up boats hope you are enjoying our short bits of the 2025 racing season.
