The 70th-anniversary race to Apollo Bay started on time at 6am in 15 knots of wind from the NW. It was MRV that lead the fleet from the start and who were first through the heads. Ginan, Arcadia, Hot Chipps, How Bizarre, Cadibarra, Jaffa and Shimmer are all closely following. The winds are predicted to hold all day making for a fast race and quick race. With all boats safely through the heads, we have Blue Water Tracks providing a quick on water update. Video: Grant Dunoon

A heartbreaking moment at sea… A beautiful sailboat lies half-submerged in turquoise water after a grounding near the rocks. The mast tilts, waves gently wash over the hull, and another small boat nearby attempts rescue. Even the most skilled sailors can face the ocean’s unpredictable side — a quiet reminder of how powerful and unforgiving nature can be. #BoatAccident #SailingLife #OceanTragedy #SailingCommunity #BoatRecovery #DarkSideOfBoatLife #SailingDisaster #SeaLife #YachtGrounding #OceanEmotions
One of my new favourite knots is the Zeppelin Bend, for tying 2 ropes together. It's a very strong knot from the late 18th century that was used to secure Zeppelin airships full of hydrogen or helium to the ground. This video will quickly show you how to tie one. .... This knot can cope with a huge strain and it won't jam under load, meaning you can untie it in an emergency: it's the Mother of all knots. ... Zeppelins were up to 3 times longer than a 747. That's quite a force for a knot. Sure, you can just use a Sheet Bend for the same purpose, but why ask Mr Bean for help when you know Schwarzenegger? Anyway, this knot has a great back story and a cool name: the Zepper!
