West Highland Yacht Week 2023 gave the team at Bottom Up Boats a story to tell in the bar which you could never imagine.. As the J109 Going To Red was coming into the bottom mark for the second time they had to put the bow done to avoid a dog that had jumped off the bow of the boat in front. I must admit that I would never have expected to have to worry about dodging dogs at the bottom mark of a yacht race. I guess you should never say never when you are out and about on the race course. 🪢 Sunday Boat Tip [27/52] 🪢 There’s so many horror stories out there with boats having to clean their diesel tanks in the worst imaginable situation after the engine stoped working at an even worse moment. We figured we play it safe and try to prevent it as much as we can after finding a piece of plastic that blocked the system causing our engine to stop outside of Anholt (just after we left Sweden). You can never be totally safe from diesel bugs, specially fueling up in remote places, but you can diminish the risks. Also make sure you protect yourself and the environment by avoiding spill! Only discharge of the residues in a designated place.
