Happiest of birthdays to our little boat pup, Sophie, who turns 13 today! She’s lived aboard a boat for 11 of her 13 years. This little angel changed our lives forever when we brought her home. We love you Sopheena-Ro-Weena! Here’s to many more years with you! 🐾🎂🥳❤️ . . #boatdog #boatdogsofinstagram⚓️ #dachshund #dachshundsofinstagram #birthdaygirl #weinerdog #sausagedog #boatdachshund #boatweenie #livingaboard #sailingdog #sailboatlife #sailboatliving #shortsvideo #shorts Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/zoo/the-road-ahead License code: M74ABT5REWK4MMU7

Today we took the apprentices on a day out to visit The Sutton Hoo ship replica, an Anglo-Saxon ship which was buried in the 7th century and is now being replicated thanks to the amazingly talented restorers at The Sutton Hoo Ship Company in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Massive thank you to our tour guide Billy for showing us around and educating us on the great work and history of The Sutton Hoo ship! @suttonhooship - - - #thesuttonhooshipcompany #suttonhoo #boats #boatrestoration #historicalrestoration #englishheritage #anglosaxon #anglosaxonship #shipreplica #pioneersailingtrust

We know that learning to sail can be overwhelming and there is a lot to take in. In an effort to help, we’ve created a series of “Bite Sized Lessons” taken straight out of our textbooks – Sailing Made Easy and Coastal Cruising Made Easy. (asa.com/textbooks) In this lesson we take a look at who has the right of way as two sailboats approach each other; one on starboard tack, the other on port tack.

Competent Crew Course details: ➜ https://www.firstclasssailing.com/rya-courses/competent-crew Now we're on port tack, and we need to trim the headsail to make sure we're getting the best performance out of it. The lesson includes winching it in tight, ensuring the sheet lead car is set correctly towards the aft of the sheet lead track. This short clip was filmed during one of our RYA Competent Crew course lessons on the Solent. ** About the RYA Competent Crew course in Southampton ** The RYA Competent Crew course is the perfect introduction for beginners who want to get into sailing and is specifically designed for those with little to no sailing experience. It is the ideal starting point. Even if you’ve only had a brief taste of sailing, whether in the UK or abroad, the Competent Crew course offers structured learning and a strong foundation in the basics of sailing. We run our courses from Southampton, and they take place in and around the Solent. With First Class Sailing you’ll gain hands-on experience, experience life on board, and all the enjoyment it brings. By the end of the 5 day course, you’ll have the skills and confidence to be a capable and reliable crew member. The course begins and ends in Southampton, with stops at scenic destinations around the Solent, giving you the chance to experience different sailing conditions and enjoy stunning coastal views.
