Snorkeling with the largest fish/shark in the ocean is a truly mind blowing experience. The giant polka-dotted sharks can measure up to eighteen meters and feed entirely on plankton. All over the world there are different spots where whale sharks congregate in large numbers to feed on the nutrient rich waters. Just off the coast of Cancun in Mexico is one of the largest whale shark congregations sites in the world—where you can literally see hundreds of these gentle giants slowing swimming about on the surface as they siphon up their meal. Since they are right on the surface the best way to approach the sharks is by snorkeling!

Giorno 15 - IONIO Il nostro viaggio verso la Sicilia prosegue. Come dicevamo ieri, aumentano i giorni e aumentano le miglia. Per curiosità, finora ne abbiamo percorse 570, partendo da Lignano Sabbiadoro, in Friuli. Ci fermeremo in Sicilia? Neanche per sogno. Ma tempo al tempo. Ci sarà occasione di sederci a tavolino, guardarci bene negli occhi e raccontarci i progetti futuri. Per il momento godiamoci il presente. Il nostro ci vede a navigare nel mar ionio, durante una giornata calma, priva di vento, povera di onde e di grandi variazioni. Trovo avventure sbirciando nei libri. Per essere precisi, nelle avventure di Ulisse, narrate attraverso la penna di Valerio Massimo Manfredi, nel libro “Il mio nome è Nessuno”. Così, mentre Julia scivola su mari tranquilli e Odisseo si prepara alla guerra contro Priamo, io e Andrea prendiamo le misure di questa nuova vita, accompagnati dal nostro felino del cuore. ⚓ We still shout at each other when we drop anchor and then act like nothing happened afterwards 😆 ⛵ I (Greta) still question if the boat will actually turn back upright when we start heeling 🍜 Sometimes offshore “dinners” are just cup noodles and that is totally fine 🛠️ We have clear job assignments that have not really changed in the last 7 years 🧽 We procrastinate when it comes to scrubbing the hull 🌊 We still have a lot to learn. Sailing is not something you can fully master in a classroom. Some lessons only come from being out there in the elements. Here is to embracing the quirks, the learning curves and the messy bits of life at sea.
