We were scouting a new route for an upcoming PAPA Regatta — and it turned out to be the perfect escape after a long COVID lockdown. Warm spring air, that feeling of summer just around the corner. It was the best possible way to spend the May holidays. And it was still a time when Russian and Ukrainian flags could fly side by side at the stern — united by a shared love for the sea. The Sea Champ 18 was a cool little fishboat we found on display at the Southampton Boat show, and it illustrates a lot of the differences between boats built on this side of the Atlantic, versus those built over there in the UK. Even though it's just 18' it has a pilothouse. But, it still has a ton of fishing room in the open cockpit.
