The Figure 8 is one of the greatest knots of all. This is the figure 8 stoppper knot, used to prevent line from slipping through grommets, pulleys and the like. It's used in sailing, boating, climbing and ton of other applications. This is also the first part of a proper figure 8 knot for climbing. While not the most practical way to tie this knot, it looks kinda cool. Race Day at America's Cup World Series Auckland will be 1,081 days after the New York Yacht Club challenged the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron for the Cup. The American challenge was issued seconds after entries opened. Race Day will be 460 days after DEFIANT, American Magic's first AC75, was launched in Rhode Island. Race Day will be 62 days after PATRIOT first touched the sea in Auckland. Race Day will be here in 7 days, and New York Yacht Club American Magic, the U.S. Challenger for the 36th America's Cup, will be ready.

And it was another one of those bad news days. After pulling up the deck on the outside we realised that the wood rot got into the samson post right on deck level. After poking a knife into the samson post to determine how far along the wood rot has gone (hoping we could safe the samson post) we quickly realised that it's rotten almost halfway through and it was a hard decision, I do have to admit it took a bit of convincing, I really wanted to save the old post, I really didn't want another project, it's all getting a bit overwhelming lately, like what the hell was I thinking, buying a timber boat... But yeah the boat builder and a few other friends did talk some sense into me, it is probably not the safest idea to moor your boat on a half rotten post.
