Lors de ce fameux Vendée Globe, alors qu'elle affronte les mers du Sud seule à bord de son monocoque "Whirlpool-Europe 2", elle traverse une tempête d'une violence inouïe. Les vagues sont si hautes qu'elle ne voit plus l'horizon. Elle raconte qu'à un moment, elle s'est surprise à parler à haute voix à son bateau comme à une personne : ? « Je lui disais : Tiens bon, mon grand. Allez, on y va tous les deux, on sort de là ensemble. » ?? Ce moment d'intimité entre la navigatrice et son voilier illustre magnifiquement la relation fusionnelle que peuvent entretenir les marins avec leur embarcation, surtout dans les situations extrêmes. As a complete newbie to the sailing world, I had no idea where to start my liveaboard life and I had so much to learn. But first things first. I bought a sailboat, an old wooden ex fishing boat, build for rough seas, 40 ft long and over 15t heavy. But before the sailing life begins I have to do a lot of work, from re caulking to placing planks and wood rot, repainting and anti fouling as well as turning the whole inside into a beautiful homely living space. Come along and help me figure out how to live on a boat and how to sail.
