Sometimes when you raise the sails, the battens get hung up on the lazy jacks. Sometimes they free themselves, sometimes, and you can drop the sail and try again. But sometimes, they have to be wiggled free manually, which is what Brent just did. Once they are free and clear of the lazy jack lines, we raise the sail again and the wind is now carrying our floating home to another island! Want the full adventure? From tears of joy, to tears of frustration, week 13 of the Vendée Globe was another emotional and dramatic one. And if you thought that the close competition was reserved for the front of the fleet you might want to think again. The 10th edition of the world’s toughest offshore race has delivered the highest level of competition throughout the fleet that the event has ever seen. From the front to the back there have been intense private battles that have lasted for 28,000 miles. And such is the pace this time around that even the tail enders are completing the race quicker than before.
