We have a close encounter with large illegal Chinese fishing boats (poachers) while sailing in heavy seas 150 miles off the coast of Uruguay during a winter storm in the South Atlantic Ocean. The fishing boats were later pursued by the Uruguay Navy and Coast Guard, caught, and arrested. These boats were maneuvering dangerously and aggressively on a collision course with our sailboat, in heavy seas and low visibility, during a southern ocean storm, while sailing at night, in disregard of international navigational rules, and with improper AIS signals. Schön, dass du hier bist! Wir, Emely und Tjark, haben uns den Traum vom eigenen Segelboot erfüllt, eine Maxi84, relativ spontan und ohne das ganz große Geld. Das Boot müssen wir noch umtaufen auf den Namen Meera. Wir nehmen dich mit auf unsere Reise von blutigen Anfängern zu hoffentlich passablen Seglern. Bevor wir uns in die Wellen stürzen können, liegt noch ein Berg an Arbeit vor uns. Umbauten, Änderungen und vor allem der Sportbootführerschein müssen erledigt werden.
