I met Mama Piru during our first odyssey in May 2015 when we came to study the marin plastic wastes on the Island of the Rapa Nui. She quickly opened her doors and gave her trust. She is a leader who dedicated her life to preserve the heritage, the culture and the environment of the Island. An engaging person, animated by a strength and faithless. Take a look inside North Sails’ brand new UK sail loft, which opened its doors today. The loft is based in Gosport, on the southern coast of the UK, and will house a number of global departments under one roof. These include Superyacht finishing andsail production for One Design and North Sails 3Di. Set to be North Sails’ European flagship facility, the loft will enable North Sails to remain at the forefront of sail technology, innovation and manufacturing. Gosport is the first loft in the world to specialize in superyacht sails, and it’s gigantic raised floor – measuring 1,950m2 – is the largest ever built. A team of 9 designers and 82 staff members are aided by state-of-the-art technology and equipment, ensuring sails are delivered quickly, and safely – with no compromises in quality. The space is split into two manufacturing bays, and the main floor is designed to cater to superyacht sail finishing. Measuring 101x30m, the space can accommodate two J-Class headsails and a mainsail laid out simultaneously. The secondary bay is dedicated to One Design sailmaking and Certified Service sail care.
