We are met by a pod of dolphins and get the GoPro in the water to hear them talking to each other and maybe even us. It's been announced that the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit is in Trinidad and Tobago this week for coordinated operations with the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, explaining the helicopters flying over Chaguaramas yesterday. One of the listed locations for the exercises is Teteron Barracks, a military Trinidadian base right near the shipyards where many foreign sailing vessels are stored, including ours. For context, this area is located approximately 13.5 miles from Venezuela. The U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain said the training is aimed at tackling transnational threats, strengthening regional stability, and improving disaster-response capabilities. Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force officials added that the exercises support their efforts to reduce the flow of guns and drugs into Trinidad and Tobago.

Checking expiration dates on key boating safety equipment is critical as you head back out on the water this year. While it's important to check expiration dates because its the law, ultimately doing this quick check is critical for the safety of you and your guests. For example, pyrotechnic flares expire 42 months after date of manufacture and have an expiration date stamped on them. Fire extinguishers now must be replaced at least every 12 years. Thanks to local skier Robyn Smalley, who gave us some time on a day off from the clinic to chat with us about her custom skis. Robyn comes from a ski family, and truly loves the sport. In her years as a student Robyn sacrificed many a powder day teaching kids on the bunny hill or at home studying anatomy and physiology. Being an instructor shows such a deep love of the sport, because while they do ski a lot, instructors also log many hours wiping snotty noses in front of the hot chocolate machine. Next time you hand your child over to an instructor on a pow day, make sure you show your appreciation! Robyn has been a registered Kinesiologist for nearly a decade, so now she can ski for herself! Appropriately, skiing combines movement, reflexes, balance and breathing fresh air in nature. It’s just the best! It is so good for our overall physical and mental health – and so many people are looking for safe ways to live a healthy active lifestyle right now. Of course sports like skiing can also lead to aches and pains, and even injuries.
