The Cleat Hitch is a simple but effective way to secure your boat to the dock. Many people will argue that you should not use this method (preferring the OXO method) ad it can lock tight under heavy load. The team at bottom up boats agree to disagree with these critics as we firmly believe that there is a time and a place for everything. The clear hitch is neat and does not take up massive around of room on the cleat. In addition to the the cleat hitch ties nicely over the top of other lines which are being used to secure boats or yachts which got to the dock before you. If you want to learn more about the cleat hitch and OXO methods for securing your boat then take a look out our full length video where we take you through the pros and cons of both. https://youtu.be/LepMcTJuFfI If you want full instructions on how to tie the cleat hitch then follow the link below to learn more. https://youtu.be/5tnpsmPpL9k The team at bottom up boats hope you enjoyed this short video video where we teach you how to tie the cleat hitch in less than 30 seconds.

We have been struggling to sort out the battery power for the electric motor as part of our fully electric boat refit. Except for diesel heating for a British winter, we are going to be Fossil Fuel free. These Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries from Fogstar are the game changer for us. They are the Drift PRO 24V 280Ah LiFePO4 Leisure Battery (Gen2), a new product release that gives us 24Volt, 285Ah and able to deliver 300A. With four of them, we can provide our electric motor with the 48V and 600A it needs. This is an essential step towards finishing our huge refit so we can launch our 1977 Rival 38 Centre Cockpit ketch ASAP. Disclaimer: We are Brand Ambassadors for Fogstar and can earn commission from referrals and get a discount. They do not have any editorial input or approval. We reached out to them because they were highly recommended by friends and because of the unique set of features that made these by far the best solution we could find for our needs. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.page/ Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc). Hey everyone, 👋 We wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. Over the last three years, your unwavering support has meant the world to us. You’ve been with us through every adventure, every challenge, and every unforgettable moment, and for that, we are truly thankful. 🙏 This journey has been incredible, but we’ve realized that the joy we find in this lifestyle was beginning to be overshadowed by the demands of capturing and sharing everything. Recording footage and dedicating the time to produce content just didn’t turn out to be as rewarding as we had expected. It started taking away from the very thing we love most—the simple, beautiful life we’re so privileged to live. So, after much reflection, we’ve decided that it’s time to close this chapter on YouTube. While we won’t be posting videos anymore, we’re not saying goodbye completely. We’re scaling down to Instagram, where we can share our journey in a way that allows us to stay more present in the moment and still stay connected with all of you. ⚓️ We hope you’ll continue to follow along with us there and interact with us through that platform. Your messages, comments, and support have always been a source of inspiration, and we look forward to continuing to share our adventures with you—just in a different way. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being part of this journey with us. We wouldn’t be where we are without you. Much love, La Vida Gypsea ⛵️Drone footage from our friends @sailingtheatlas #mytravelgram #sailing #boatlife #newchapter #instatravel
