With the first boat now in sight, the Race Directors Jeremy and Cam reflect on the senseless loss of the ORCV Race Control van as they setup a make shift race management desk in the cold. Thankfully the winds have continued to build with some reporting 30 knots at times and the first boat due in within the hour.

Day 3 of our Christmas calendar takes us to the aft cabin—our cozy retreat and one of the biggest reasons we chose a center cockpit boat! 🛥️ Here’s what makes this cabin so special: 🛌 A 160 cm wide bed that fits both of us (and our dog 🐶) comfortably. ⛽ We’re literally sleeping on top of 280 liters of diesel—don’t worry, it’s well-sealed! 😉 🌬️ The bed has slats underneath to prevent moisture buildup and keep our mattress fresh. 🔧 Beneath the bed, we house our hydraulic autopilot pump, though soundproofing is on our to-do list! For storage, we have 3 cabinets, perfect for clothes and gear—everything we need for life onboard. This cabin truly feels like home, offering comfort and functionality no matter where we sail. Sunshine and a steady 8 knots for breeze brought 14 boat in YTC 1 for the annual KYC Open Keel Boat event. The race committee set two great course with the first race running for just under 2 hours followed by a shorter 1 hour second rave. The local A35 showed everyone a clear pair of heel to win the Bennett Cup with two victories, with the time on GTR scoring to 2 & a 4 to win on count back. GTR owned the boat end of the line for the second start of the day boxing out Exlir and a pack of Impala's that tried to barge in. Strangford lough is a great place to go racing on a sunny spring day. The Team at Bottom up boats will remember to pack the GoPro for their next outing to ensure we can share some more racing footage.....
