FREE NAVIGATION RULES COURSE (4.83/5 ⭐ī¸âī¸âī¸âī¸âī¸ - 19,947 Reviews): https://www.nauticed.org/sailing-courses/view/navigation-rules Man overboard recovery: When sailing a close reach, reach or broad reach, if you have a man overboard situation follow the procedure in this video. Deploy the life ring. Use the deep beach reach method with engines on for maneuverability. Through out the maneuver, keep the vessel as close as possible to the victim. Tack the boat, turn downwind and sail back down and slightly past the victim so that you will approach from a downwind position. Position the victim on the windward side of the boat. If you're learning to sail, you should know this information before venturing out. When turning on engines, always check for lines in the water that can entangle the prop. Doing a rig check before offshore sailing? Here’s how we inspect our rigging before every passage. From the top of the mast, we check for cracked fittings, loose pins, corrosion, and halyard chafe — the small things that can turn into big problems at sea. We use a climbing harness (or a bosun’s chair works too), a figure 8 knot for extra security, and always a backup halyard. Clear communication and double-checking gear are key when one of you is literally hoisting the other up the mast. This is part of our pre-passage checklist — and it’s one of the most important safety steps we take before any long sail. â›ĩ Want more sailing tips, rigging know-how, and liveaboard life?
