Quand vous naviguez ร la voile, le vent que vous ressentez ร bord nโest pas le vent rรฉel : cโest le vent apparent Aux allures portantes (vent venant de lโarriรจre), la vitesse du bateau ยซย rattrapeย ยป une partie du vent. Le vent apparent est donc plus faible : on soustrait la vitesse du bateau ร celle du vent. Aux allures de prรจs (vent venant de face), la vitesse du bateau sโajoute au vent rencontrรฉ. Le vent apparent est alors plus fort : on additionne les deux vitesses.
