Seacocks are bronze valves in a boat and are used as a safety measure for closing off holes below the water line and keeping water out of the boat for either maintenance or emergencies. We have 4 total on Seawind, and one of them has been giving us trouble for the past couple of years. I cleaned and greased this particular seacock, and ever since, it’s seeped a bit of water into the boat. Fast communication between the spotter and helm is essential to navigate the dubiously chartered coral reefs and bommie fields of Fiji and we've often envied crew on other boats who manage to do this without shouting at eachother down the length of the boat!
