At the request of Her Majesty's Coastguard, where possible, during daylight hours during the summer, leisure boaters in England should avoid using VHF channel 16 for routine radio checks. Instead, call one of the 56 lookout stations of the National Coastwatch Institution on VHF Ch 65. They can also give you forecast and live weather reports, as well as check your AIS is working. #SHORTS https://www.nci.org.uk/ A voluntary organisation keeping a visual watch along UK shores

Vieste 11/08/23.

► Our Sydney-based correspondent Kevin Green had the opportunity to sail aboard the Cure 55 following its world premiere at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. No sooner had he stepped ashore than our tester gave us his first impressions: “I’ve just tested the Cure 55. This is without doubt the most impressive performance cruiser I have sailed in years (and that’s not just because it’s Australian!) Fast, lightweight and quite maneuverable, this catamaran really has a lot to offer for 3.5 million Australian dollars.” In fact, the Cure 55 #1, which is the Performance version, is a sharp all-carbon catamaran that makes the most of its one-piece structure to keep its displacement down to just over 9 tons. The hulls are angled at 2.5° like the old Catanas, with very fine entry, slightly inverted bows, and daggerboards. The Hall Spars rig is obviously also in carbon, as is the Park Avenue boom that sits flush with the coachroof. The result? The Cure 55 reaches 20 knots with disconcerting ease... ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Builder: Cure Marine Overall length: 58’4” (17.78 m) Beam: 28’6” (8.69 m) Draft: 4’3”/7’11” (1.3/2.41 m) Light displacement: 20,950 lbs (9.5 t) Mainsail: 1,173 sq ft (109 m²) Self-tacking jib: 592 sq ft (55 m²) Gennaker: 2,110 sq ft (196 m²) Water: 211 US gal (800 l) Fuel: 211 US gal (800 l) Engines: 2 x 57 HP www.curemarine.com.au ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Use your sense of smell to troubleshoot potential issues on your boat, such as fuel leaks or a faulty marine toilet.
