Found a couple areas we haven't touched on the port side and cut our way in. We moved onto the starboard side, sanded, and got 1 coat of primer down. Things are still moving fairly slowly but at least they're still moving. We made some good progress with the help of a couple of our groomsmen who spent their day sanding and cleaning. Doing this hull is almost like deja vu but we're taking some lessons learned and applying them early on. Sitting around at home on self quarantine with nothing to do but surf the web, netflix, and chill. With our 1 year wedding anniversary upon us, it was perfect timing to....make our family a little larger and fool our friends and family by posting our new dinghy like you would announce a pregnancy. No, we'll leave the babies for the popular sailing channels. We have enough on our plate! Little Shark is a 1970 Boston Whaler. She's 13' long and powered by a 30 HP Mercury EFI Outboard. We did some maintenance and took "Little Shark" for a spin around Marina Del Rey, CA. The "red tide" turned into a mind-blowing light show of bio-luminescence at night. A couple days later we took Shaun's mom(and dad) around MDR for mother's days. You could tell it was already started to disappear but was still an amazing sight to see and we all really enjoyed it! For the last month, we haven't really left our home except for when it really was necessary. It was getting hot in the valley and the bottom needed a good cleaning. We felt that "giving white shark a belly rub" was a good "social distancing" activity. It feels like it's getting easier each time. We took some advice from some professional hull cleaners and bought their favorite suction handles and brushes. Shaun had to tether every tool to help Brittany(and himself) hold onto to them. It was the first time we had a boat pass by and give us a wake to toss our tummies. We hope everyone else is keeping healthy and safe! We can't wait for things to get back to some sort of normalcy. More battling the rain and failed tarping attempts. We are finally getting somewhere though. We "scuffed" the primer up and prepped for paint. We applied 1 coat of bilgekote to the parts that have been primered and things are really startiing to look good. Another layer or 2 will make a huge difference! Bilgekote needs to be applied thinly as it seems to run pretty easily but when it hardens, it feels like it's adding a bunch of strength to it! Thanks for joining along as we refit our 39' Trimaran named "White Shark." Denis and Shaun Cleaned the bottom of the boat again. Shaun had an issue with his camera housing but was still able to catch some cool sun rays. We're still working on wiping everything and laying down primer in the port side hull. Almost ready for bilgekote! We've now used 3 quarts of 1026 and have covered less than 1/3 of the boat. We thought the paint was the expensive part. We didn't even think about how much the primer was going to cost us! The fumes are definitely as bad as they say. Just a couple minutes without PPE will give you a headache. The smell reminds Shaun of a bowling alley. It's Prime Time! We've finally reached a point where we can start hitting sections with primer and paint. We've sanded about 1/2 of the boat and are ready to bring on the brushes! The quart can of Interlux 1026 sealer primer only went far enough to do the center section of the center hull and a small portion of the front section of the port side. We've purchased a couple more quarts and will continue on. Our neighbor did mention laying fiberglass down.....so we'll see what we come up with next. Our move didn't go exactly as planned. We finally got a hold of Ramon(our dock maintenance guy) but his communication lacks a bit. Ok, maybe more than a bit and we're a little bum that we didn't get to film our bit for it but none the less, we're moved to the dock we want to be on. As they say "beggars can't be choosers" and we're just thankful for the help! Now that we're next to our new friend "Ken" he's given us some good advice. The first thing was "stop killing yourselves trying to sand down the entire boat at once. Compartmentalize and do it in sections or you're going to go crazy!" We, like maybe some of you are saying "how much sanding can we really do/want to watch in this multihull?! Well, we decided to sand down the port side completely and start there! We should be ready for paint after a couple spots that need to be done by hand and some good cleaning since everything is now covered in dust! Getting Brittany to help in the tight areas is like pulling teeth.....or staples. Lol. She did however setup a xmas tree so that we could get out our yearly epic holiday card out in time. Never ending cleaning and continued to sand the interior. We were hoping to move docks but there's no sign of Ramon. We seriously looked EVERYWHERE.....and yes I really opened my eyes and mouth in the marina(multiple times) and didn't get sick! We did finally get ahold of him and he wasn't able to move us due to the windy conditions but he promised that first thing Saturday we'd be able to move. It kind of sucks that nothing works on the boat! After sanding the ceiling sections, we're starting to realize that there are so many blemishes and staples that we're not able to remove. Rethinking the whole idea of staining and varnishing rather than just painting it all white. Someone dropped their wedding ring while patting dust off of themselves while on the dock! Seriously?! The paint stripper worked really well but Brittany had a hard time controlling it. We continue sanding the interior down to prep for repaint of our #Sailing #Trimaran. The Bilgekote was really expensive so we're still not sure what we want to paint the interior of the boat with. Shaun spent the first night "camping" on White Shark since the drive is 2 hours round trip and our days have been limited by other activities. We ended up making it down on Sunday for a few hours as well. Brittany of course gave up after a while and took a nap on the deck of the boat with our dog Cal. We ended up buying a 2nd power sander and switched from using 120 grit to 80 grit sandpaper. We still were clogging sand paper faster than we expected. We're not even a quarter of the way done so it will probably be a few more weeks of prepping the interior for paint....that is unless we can recruit some more people to help. Any takers? After working on a project for our townhouse(new closet door!) and attended a surprise bday party, we only made it down to the boat on Sunday. We finally started prepping the interior for paint! Shaun cut down hardware and power sanded them down. We got the girls together and tackled some sanding. Shaun pulled out the water tank and Brittany gave it a good scrubbing to hopefully rid the horrendous sulfur smell. We tested out our new chairs from West Marine and Brittany was surprised by what it takes to fix our rigging issues. We also enjoyed the Packers game on the only thing that actually works on the boat....our giant flat screen! We had some major girl power helping us out! It was also time for another bottom clean and this time Shaun was able to convince Brittany to dive it with him. It wasn't as bad as she expected but has dubbed it "Hazmat Harbor" because there can't be that much water movement being in the far back of the Harbor. We think this is how to clean the bottom of a boat but are not professionals. Is this how you do it? Scrape it? Do you use a brittle pad? We received an early morning threatening email from the previous owner and rushed down to the Anchorage to make sure everything was ok. We figured while we were holding down the fort, we'd get some work done. Shaun started pulling the electrical out and quickly realized that it was a little more than he was willing to tackle at the moment. He started pulling up the old flooring and carpet. Brittany continued to clean parts that haven't been bleached enough times and cleaned up after Shaun's demo work. Cal was a good watch dog and hung out on deck for the day.
