Welcome to Sailing k????, in this episode we travel to Greece and sail the Saronic Islands. We are on a liveaboard catamaran for a week and travel from island to island while visiting ancient ruins that are more than 5,000 years old, swim in the Aegean Sea and explore some caves that once housed some of the earliest known humans on the planet. Greece's Saronic Islands (or Argo-Saronic Islands), sit just off the mainland and Peloponnese peninsula in the Aegean's Saronic Gulf. Known for their beaches and ancient ruins, they're popular day-trip and weekend destinations. Closest to Athens is the largest island, Salamis (or Salamína), whose Ambelakia port dates to the 4th century B.C. On Aegina is the well-preserved Temple of Aphaia, built in 500 B.C. Athens is the capital of Greece. It was also at the heart of Ancient Greece, a powerful civilization and empire. The city is still dominated by 5th-century BC landmarks, including the Acropolis, a hilltop citadel topped with ancient buildings like the colonnaded Parthenon temple. The Acropolis Museum, along with the National Archaeological Museum, preserves sculptures, vases, jewelry and more from Ancient Greece. Aegina is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece in the Saronic Gulf, 27 km from Athens. Tradition derives the name from Aegina, the mother of the mythological hero Aeacus, who was born on the island and became its king. The Temple of Aphaia is an Ancient Greek temple located within a sanctuary complex dedicated to the goddess Aphaia on the island of Aegina, which lies in the Saronic Gulf. Formerly known as the Temple of Jupiter Panhellenius, the Doric temple is now recognized as having been dedicated to the mother-goddess Aphaia. It stands on a c. 160 m peak on the eastern side of the island approximately 13 km east by road from the main port. Agistri, also Angistri or Agkistri, is a small populated island and municipality in the Saronic Gulf in the Islands regional unit, Greece. Poros is a small Greek island-pair in the southern part of the Saronic Gulf, about 58 km south of the port of Piraeus and separated from the Peloponnese by a 200 m wide sea channel, with the town of Galatas on the mainland across the strait. Its surface area is about 31 square kilometer's and it has 3,261 inhabitants. Dokos is a small Greek island of the Argo-Saronic Gulf, adjacent to Hydra, and separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow strait called, on some maps, "the Hydra Gulf." It is part of the municipality of Ýdra in Islands regional unit and reported a population of 18 persons at the 2011 census. The islet of Moni is located southwest side of Aegina, opposite Perdika village. Moni is a great place for sailing and excursions, as it boasts great turquoise waters and lush nature. The island is not inhabited, as there is no drinkable water. The only inhabitants are some animals and, in particular, some deer, kri-kri goats brought from Crete, squirrels, peacocks and falcons. The deer and the peacocks have grown especially accustomed to human presence, and they may even come close to you on the beach! Moni was under the jurisdiction of the Greek Touring Club for 30 years. Thus, in 1962, it was decided that it should be enriched to become a game-breeding natural park. Hydra, or Ydra or Idra, and in antiquity Hydrea, is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece, located in the Aegean Sea between the Myrtoan Sea and the Argolic Gulf. It is separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow strip of water. 00:00 Intro 00:42 Athens - Acropolis 2:16 Aegina - Sanctuary of Aphaia 05:00 Agistri South 06:27 Comedy Night & Otter Ball 07:00 Poros 09:06 Dokos 12:10 Belly Flop Contest 12:35 Mermaid Entry 13:55 Boom Hang 16:27 Flying Bowline 18:03 Dive Swim Chug 19:05 Hydra 20:30 Moni Island 21:08 Back to Athens 21:30 Outro #catamaransailing https://www.theoceancruisers.com/ #oceancruiserspodcast #apparentwinds #cruisersacademy #svkalos #santorini #oiasantorini #santorinigreece #athens #poros #sailingadventures #liveaboards #greeksailing #athens #aegeansea #sailingkalos #greekislands #saronicislands #oceancruisingboats #greeksailing
Welcome to Sailing k????! in this video we share a compilation of clips from some of our journeys to date. This is an overview of the type of content you will find on our Channel. We are preparing to sell everything and then sail around the world. Once we depart fulltime to sail, our videos will then join the likes of a more traditional sailing channel. Until then, we are sharing various travel and adventures along the way. We are not "talking heads" as I like to call them. We simply like the challenge of editing some cool with some good tunes and hope that other people enjoy seeing it as well. Our editing skills and content management are getting better and better each time we release a new video. Seriously I meant well when compiling some of my early videos (check 'em out if you have not already done so). Oh ... and as for the title of this episode ... our next stop is sailing in Greece!! In this particular video you will see snap shots of the following places, adventures, cities and countries: #skydive #yellowstone #sandiego #maryland #bajacalifornia #scuba #fiji #chicago #cozumel #maui #ireland #scotland #puertovallarta #idaho #sanfrancisco #washingtondc #washingtonmonument #thewhitehouse #playadelcarmenmexico #bonaire #alaska #greece #athens #parthenon #saronicislands #santorini #oiasantorini and More ... #sailingkalos We hope you enjoy and thanks for watching! Welcome to Sailing k????! After several decades of wanting to make it to the Sturgis motorcycle rally we finally made it! We hope you enjoy this quick snapshot of our time there and all of the amazing sites that we saw along the way. Sturgis is a city in western South Dakota. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame nods to the city's long-running Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and houses vintage motorbikes, plus memorabilia and photographs. Fort Meade, a 19th-century military outpost, and the Old Fort Meade Museum, documenting its history, are just east of town. To the south, Black Hills National Forest has rugged mountains, canyons and trails. #sturgisrally #mountrushmore #deadwood #saloon no 10 #keystone #devilstower #stonehouse #fullthrottle saloon #buffalochip #jellyroll #ironhorse saloon #brokenspoke saloon #crazyhorse monument #trumpsupporters ... and much more! #sailingkalos
Welcome to Sailing k????. Join us on our date night as we travel across 4 States and end up in Yellowstone to see one of the most beautiful places in all of the Pacific Northwest! It all started with an impromptu Harley ride to the Oregon border when we got another wild hair to go to Yellowstone! A few hours later we made that crazy impulse a reality. We saw Buffalo, Old Faithful, the Grand Prismatic Spring, and several other truly majestic sights along the way. After a nights stay in the Old Faithful Lodge, we went through Jackson Hole Wyoming, played some pool and headed back to Idaho. Not a bad way to have a date night!! Yellowstone National Park is a nearly 3,500-sq.-mile wilderness recreation area atop a volcanic hot spot. Mostly in Wyoming, the park spreads into parts of Montana and Idaho too. Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful. It's also home to hundreds of animal species, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope. Thanks for watching! ? #yellowstone #harleytouring #oldfaithful #jacksonhole #datenight #adventuretravel #sailingkalos
Welcome to Sailing k????! In this video we head out of the Scottish Highlands and make our way back to Edinburgh. Along the way we hit one of the legendary castles used in the filming of Monty Python and Holy Grail (The Castle Aarrgh) as well as our Family Castle (Armadale). Most people do not make the trip from Inverness down to Fort Augustus while they are on Holiday due to the remote proximity of its location ... but we did! AND ... we saw a ship traversing the locks into Loch Ness! We also visited the Harry Potter Bridge along with the remotely located "Fairy Pools". The Isle of Skye has long been on my list for decades and we finally made it! Oban is one of my favorite places and we drive from there back to the Centre of Scotland in hopes of going to the MacCallan Distillery. However, when we were just a few kilometers away at the Cragganmore Distillery, we informed that tours of this distillery are by appointment only ... so needless to say, we did not make it. However, we had a little Bob Ross "happy accident" along the way and found some Whisky's that are not currently being exported that are truly 2nd to none! #Ballindalloch Finally we end up back in Edinburgh where we were taught the etymology of the term "Shit Faced" as explained in this video by the comedian Daniel Sloss while he was on the Conan O'Brien show. We hope you enjoy! Much Love, Mike and Tisha ?? Welcome to Kalos! If you wan to follow the Odyssey Sailing Festival on YouTube and find out more about the upcoming adventures check out @OceanCruisers for more details on how you can become a part of the journey! In this video we are happy to share with you our experience of the first ever Odyssey Sailing Festival in the British Virgin Islands (BVI's) from our perspective. While there were 11 total catamarans and 130 people, this video is shown from the "Balliest of Bali Cats" perspective. The all-star line up of legendary skippers include: Laura Dekker : World Record holder as the youngest person to sail around the world single handed Dustin Reynolds : World Record Holder as the first double amputee to sail around the world single handed Glenn Shepard : Captain on Parsifal III & Below Deck Sailing Andy H : The Ocean Cruisers & Odyssey Sailing Festival Founder Brady & Blue : Cruisers Academy Tripp & Kierra : Apparent Winds Warren & Erica : WEsail Dan & Kika : Sailing UMA Colin MacRae : Parlay Revival Jamie Vandenbulk : Parlay Revival Erik Aanderaa : No Bullshit Just Sailing While we were our cruising, we met up with some folks from the YCA or Young Cruisers Association who were also having a gathering in the BVI's. And then we also had some other sailors like Joe Rust from the Chasing Bubbles Foundation, Raff & Sascha from Spear It Animal and Lauren Landers join up with us at The Bitter End. During breakfast on departure day, we encountered a 5.7 magnitude earthquake before we set sail to the following destinations: Nanny Cay Norman Island Jost Van Dyke - Foxy's at Great Harbour Jost Van Dyke - Foxy's Taboo Peter Island Marina Cay Virgin Gorda - The Bitter End Virgin Gorda - Spanish Town We had several really cool adventures and experiences along the way as well such as a "fancy dress" comedy night were we had our own sailors share stories and experiences to make for an unforgettable night to be had by all! We also had the opportunity to visit da Bubbles Pool on Marina Cay, the Baths on Virgin Gorda, Foxy's on Jost Van Dyke, the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke, Peg Legs on Tortola, Willy T's on Norman Island and an epic raft up at The Bitter End - Virgin Gorda where we had a belly flop competition among several other experiences! Some of the Skippers and Crew got together for a Hobie Cat race at Sundown at The Bitter End followed by a bonfire on the beach to close out the night. #bvi #bvifestvi #catamaransailing #regatta #oceancruisingboats Cheers! Mike and Tisha ?? Nanny Cay is an island of the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. It is made up of three cays originally known as Big Cay, Little Cay and Miss Peggy Cay. In the 1970s these were consolidated into a single land mass for a marina and resort development. It is connected to Tortola by a short bridge. Norman Island also has a documented history of pirate booty being stowed upon the island. In August 1750, a Spanish treasure galleon named Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe sought shelter from a storm on the North Carolina coast. The crew mutinied and the treasure, said to consist of (amongst other things) 55 chests of silver coins, was loaded into two bilanders, one of which was carrying Owen Lloyd. The first vessel was lost, but Lloyd escaped to St. Croix. After disposing of some of the money, he proceeded to Norman Island where the treasure was buried. Foxy's Taboo, a Gem, nestled between the green hills of Diamond Cay. Offering Sumptuous lunches, dinners and cocktails. Taboo lies in the quiet, scenic shores of the Diamond Cay blue water. The perfect place to relax and escape the everyday rush and listen to the calming sounds of the ocean. Da Bubbly Pool - On the far eastern side of Jost Van Dyke in the BVI, is a geological delight called the Bubbly Pool. This natural Jacuzzi is formed as waves roll through a crevasse in the boulders that line the Northeastern coast of Jost. The waves fill a small pool with effervescent sea water. Marina Cay is an island of the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. The 8-acre island was uninhabited until 1937, when author Robb White and newly married wife Rosalie "Rodie" Mason settled on the island. For over half a century, Bitter End Yacht Club has been world-renowned for its sense of adventure, love of the water, appreciation for nature, and dedication to friends and family. Welcome to Kalos! In this episode we fly to Bora Bora to get married in authentic Polynesian style! Join us as we take you through our travels and met up in L.A. with the wedding party who traveled from all parts of America to be a part of our very special day in French Polynesia. We flew into Tahiti (Papetee) and then took another majestic flight over the islands Mo'orea and Raiatea to be greeted by the infamous Mt. Otemanu before we landed on the atoll to be picked up by a water taxi or shuttle from our Resort (Le Bora Bora). Soon after we had cold champagne and hot fire dancers. The resort is not accustomed to accommodating 16 guests at one time for a wedding so we most certainly had a unique experience for all when we arrived. Tisha and I had the End of Pontoon Over the Water Bungalow with Horizon Pool while our other quests had a combination of the Royal Villa and several overwater bungalows. We joke that Jason Momoa (Aquaman) crashed our wedding as he was on the main island as well as our resort for a few days with his family. In the shadow of a dormant volcano we swam in the turquoise lagoon, sailed around the island on a catamaran and hiked the hills and beaches of Bora Bora. We visit iconic locations like the Bora Bora Beach Club, WWII Guns, a pillbox abandoned by the U.S. Navy & Bloody Marys. We left America on the 4th of July and while we were in the air our airline (Air Tahiti Nui) went on strike. When we were scheduled to fly out of Tahiti we could not leave as our flight had been cancelled due to the strike. Luckily, we had a local family that was gracious enough to give up their family home so we could all stay together until we were able to figure out our flight back to America. Due to the rescheduling of the flight home we found ourselves with a short layover at LAX to so we decided to grab a hotel for a few hours to get cleaned up and then we explored Marina del Ray, Venice Beach and Santa Monica. This was truly an epic adventure and the most magical wedding we could have asked for. 00:00 - Intro 00:30 - Tahiti 01:09 - Bora Bora 02:19 - Sunset Cruise 03:58 - Fire Dancers 05:30 - 911 Emergency! 05:57 - Wedding Site Selection 06:21 - Water Fun! 07:59 - The Wedding! 11:19 - Touring Bora Bora 13:54 - World War II Guns 17:42 - Wedding Crasher 19:22 - Stuck in Tahiti! 22:12 - The Layover #weddingdestinations #borabora #frenchpolynesia #tahiti #sunsetcruise #firedancers #ww2history #aquaman #weddingcrashes #airlinetravel

Welcome to Kalos, in this episode we sail with the Cruisers Academy. We met up with Brady and Blue (formerly SVDelos) for a day on the bay aboard Lintika during Fleet Week in San Francisco. Upon our arrival we did not know who "Karl" was but we soon found out that "Karl" (aka: the fog) was responsible for canceling the Blue Angels air show. Needless to say, that did not stop us from having a truly unforgettable sail around the bay. Friendships were forged and memories were made. Brady and Blue are very skilled sailors who enjoy sharing their knowledge in a fun and inspirational way. During our sail, we discussed crewing with them on one of the legs that they had open during their sail from San Francisco to La Paz. Needless to say, we were fortunate enough to seize the opportunity and actually caught the longest voyage that anyone from the Cruisers Academy had completed to date. We sailed 16 days and 900 nautical miles encountering some of natures most magnificent sites along the way. As always, we hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!! Welcome to Kalos. The Hilma Hooker is a 236-foot Dutch freighter built in Krimpen aan den IJssel, the Netherlands. It was originally christened the Midsland on May 20, 1951. This ship would change hands - and names - multiple times over the next two decades. On July 18, 1975, the Hooker, then known as the William Express, foreshadowed its eventual fate when it sank off Santa Bãrbara de Samanã in the Dominican Republic. But it was raised from an early grave and sold once more and renamed the Anna C. The last registered company to own the ship, the San Andres Export & Import Company in San Andres, Colombia, purchased the Doric Express in 1979 and gave it the now famous moniker, Hilma Hooker. Less than five years later, in the summer of 1984, the Hooker faced technical difficulties off the coast of Bonaire - whether problems with steerage or an engine failure is a matter of debate - and was towed into the main port of Kralendijk. Authorities became suspicious of the ship when the crew failed to produce papers for Customs immigrations officials, though, depending on whom you ask, it could also have been an inside tip or simply the ship's colorful name that prompted the increased scrutiny. Though tales tend to disagree on what exactly was the key evidence that tipped off the authorities, the result of their search is consistent from one to the next: 25,000 pounds of marijuana were found stashed behind a false bulkhead. The crew was arrested and the ship was impounded at the dock on June 6, 1984.

Welcome to Kalos. Bonaire is a Dutch island in the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. Its capital is the port of Kralendijk, on the west (leeward) coast of the island. The 2022 FIFA World Cup was happening while we were there and we were able to catch the game between the Netherlands and Argentina in a local Dutch hangout called Trocadero. It was truly an unforgettable time. The locals were amazing and such good hearted people. The island had not had a celebration like this since pre-Covid. According to the locals, not even on Kingdom Day (Queen's Day) do they celebrate like they did that night. Bonaire, an island municipality of the Netherlands, lies off Venezuela's coast in the southern Caribbean. Its reef-lined coast is protected by Bonaire National Marine Park. Beyond its rich marine life, the island shelters lizards, donkeys and birds within its immense Washington Slagbaai National Park, marked by beaches, lagoons, caverns and desert-like hills 00:00 ? Bula Bula! Welcome to Kalos, in this video, we travel to Fiji and stay at the Paradise Resort on Fiji's 3rd largest island Taveuni. This island is also nicknamed "The Garden Island". We were able to see the Southern Cross as we are 1,243.68 miles south of the equator in the Southern Hemisphere. We were able to scuba dive the great white wall, the cabbage patch and the purple wall that are all shown in our Fiji Scuba video. The Fijian's were truly some of the nicest people I have ever met. Welcome to Kalos, in this video we enjoy the Yucatán Peninsula as we visit Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. Playa del Carmen is less internationally recognized than its northern sister city, Cancun. However, this comes with many added benefits. Unlike Cancun, which has a reputation of being incredibly touristy, Playa del Carmen retains an authentic Mexican feel due to its smaller size despite still being a tourist destination. Also, Playa del Carmen can be far less crowded and hectic than Cancun year-round. The resorts and hotels are also much newer in Playa del Carmen. To summarize, anything one can find in Cancun - be it gorgeous beaches, great nightlife, or delicious cuisine - one can also find in Playa del Carmen, but in a much more authentic and relaxed environment. White sand beaches in Playa del Carmen Quinta Avenida, also referred to in English as 5th Avenue, is the main tourist thoroughfare in Playa. It is a pedestrian only, cobblestone lined street which spans approximately 20 blocks. Along 5th Ave. you will find a variety of restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping opportunities and various overpriced services. In Playa, nearly everything starts from this street. If you have more local fare in mind, head a few avenues (they are counted in jumps of five, the next one besides fifth avenue is tenth avenue) inland and prices as well as the number of gringos tend to fall. Towards the south there is a gated community full of air bnb rentals and hotels called "playacar". You might be able to just walk in, but security will stop cars and possibly pedestrians at the entrance gate. 00:00 Playa del Carmen 02:07 Cozumel 03:11 Rasta's Beach Bar 04:02 El Mirador 04:22 Playa Chen Rio 05:44 El Cedral Tequila Tasting 06:15 Occidental Hotel #rastafari #cozumelmexico #playadelcarmenmexico #yucatan #occidental #tequilatasting #mezcalartesanal #beachbars
