In this episode, I find an incredible one-off cabin cruiser parked next to my boat, get a visit from my old friend James (who was kind enough to play camera man for a while), and get started laying the new carvel-planked aft deck. In this episode, I "mock up" the two forward stays, and start taking care of some rotten areas that need to be addressed before the new aft deck is laid. And Lyell shows off her custom decoration and (unusual name) of the Seafarer 24 sailboat that she and husband Doug acquired just a few months ago. Thanks for watching; comment/like/share/subscribe! In this (ridiculously long but possibly interesting) episode, I do a little more work on the aft deck, varnish the bowsprit, get the bobstay and whisker stays in place, re-mount the anchor rollers in their new (yet old) place, and ship the anchor. Also, a woodpecker, a carpenter bee, and some ducks. Thanks for watching; comment/like/share/subscribe! In this episode, I didn't shoot much, but got a lot of work done. The aft deck is almost ready to receive the laid planks, and I have started cutting up the monolithic piece of black locust. In this (rather long, sorry) episode, I install some plywood patches around the cockpit tub, and make serious progress replacing the rotten deck beams. In this episode, I finally get the repaired lower rudder pintle in hand- and installed- and mount the middle gudgeon to the stern post. Then it's time to present the whisky plank to the boat. Winter is still slowing things up, but very soon the hull work will be finished!! Thanks for watching; comment/like/share/subscribe! In this episode, I eventually find a way to make a pattern for the long plank, then when rain prevents me from doing further work on the hull, it's back to working on the aft deck. In this episode, I finally start making the first new plank... luckily, I started with the shorter one first, because I messed it up. But I have plenty of cedar left... In this episode, I decide, after putting it off for awhile, to take drastic measures to repair significant structural rot under the aft deck by demolishing it, to allow making repairs from above. I also decided, after a lot of hemming and hawing, to replace the teak-over-ply with solid planks, most likely made of black locust, and with a much simpler layout (even though the original design was lovely). Not an easy decision, and a lot of work, but it will make for a better repair, and I will have a nice new deck, good for another 50 years, maybe. It is also very likely the other two sections of the deck will be replaced the same way, but in the future, after Nina returns to the water. Thanks for watching; comment/like/share/subscribe! In this episode, I remove old butt-joint bolts, make some small scarfs, and generally move closer to finally making Nina's hull solid. Thanks for watching; comment/like/share/subscribe!
