A short video we produced at the Optimist Ulster Championships at Royal North of Ireland, Belfast on the 10th June 2017.
McGovern Gilmore Sailing is a new 49er team consisting of Matt McGovern (Helm) and Robbie Gilmore (Crew) who are campaigning for the Irish place for the 49er at Tokyo 2020. We've known Robbie for around 10 years now, both growing up racing each other in the Topper Fleet. We recently got in touch with each other and spoke about filming some content. Last Friday it looked like an interesting day with 20 knots of wind and blue skies forecast. We got the blue skies as promised, but the wind never appeared. This was our first time working with Soarscape a new drone company based in Northern Ireland. We are looking forward to working with them in the future, allowing us to add a new perspective to our work.
Recently we worked with the Irish Sailing Association at their Youth Pathway event held at Ballyholme Yacht Club. The event was one of the largest we have covered yet with racing over 5 fleets and 3 race courses. Fleets included Toppers, Optimists, Laser 4.7s, Laser Radials and 420s. As the ISA are currently working on building their social media channels, we decided that opting for several short videos would be most suited to their needs. We decided that filming would only be needed for one day, to allow us to get the content we required. We produced an overall video to release first, along with a short teaser for Instagram. We then worked and made a short 40-60 second video for each class. We also have the option to use the content to promote future events for the ISA

One of our first projects involving sailing was back in May when we approached Irish Offshore Sailing to help them with a short promotional video. Unfortunately the only day which we could film on due to time constraints happened to have next to no wind. We headed out anyhow and put together a short video before they headed off on the Volvo Round Ireland Race later that month.
After plans for joining a boat for the Volvo Round Ireland Race fell through, we were determined to get out and get some footage of some of the leading boats passing down through the Irish Sea. At around 2000 on Sunday night we headed out in 20 knots of breeze in a 6M Rib to try catch the 3 MOD70's which were competing, But unfortunately these were just too fast. Our next target was to try catch George David's Juan K Canting Keel Rambler 88 the next morning. We set off at around 5am in light winds and headed North to meet the boat as it passed The Maidens off Larne. We stayed with the boat for around 30 minutes and even though the breeze was only a Force 3, Rambler still was racing along at around 14 knots. We are interested in getting involved with some offshore sailing for the 2017/2018 season. As well as event coverage we'd love to sponsor a yacht for an online media campaign, including video, photography and social media. We took the opportunity to take advantage of a world championship being held so close to our offices to go over and film some content. Unfortunately we could only get over for one race, and the only boat we could get was a 45 foot yacht so we couldn't get to close to the action.

This was the first event we ever recorded in the sailing world. It was a one day event at our local sailing club. We provided event coverage for the day, from a small 3.8M Rib, which was incredibly wet but provided us with a lot of laughter throughout the day.
